Alone, the chameleon lives in trees, but is able to run fast if threatened. Adapted to arboreal life and insect hunting, the chameleon has a strongly compressed lateral body, and the toes are oriented on two opposite sides, forming a pair of pliers, which attaches to the branches of trees.
